BODE Positioners are built to give long trouble-free service and include all necessary built-in safety features. The Positioning tables rotate at accurate and constant variable speeds and tilt through 1350 with a high c.o.g. load rating.

BODE Positioners can be supplied for interfacing with Robot or Column and Boom Manipulators.

Bode Man-O-Matic Positioners

The "Man-O-Matic" Positioner series has been developed for those manufactureres who use batch production methods and is particularly advantageous where identical batches are repeated at intervals.

The machines axis movements are controlled by Programmable Logic Controller based unit designed to provide a simple means of controlling the machine movements.

The P.L.C. used is the Omron CQM1 CPU41E. This repositions the machine axis as instructed by the operator to predetermined positions to suit the component to be welded.

Using the "Man-O-Matic" Positioner is simple when previous batches have been produced.

The operator selects the number which identifies the program for the part, positions the part on the positioner table and presses the index button or foot switch. The positioner will move to present the part to the operator in the predetermined position for the first operation. Each subsequent position for the sequence of operations required will be achieved in response to the operator pressing the index button or foot switch. The sequence will be completed by the positioner returning to the first position for the part to be unloaded.

The above sequence can be repeated as many times as necessary to complete the batch.
Selecting the program for another part which has been previously produced requires only the identifier number to be changed.
Programming the Man-O-Matic is simple, by setting the machine to program mode and simply moving the axes to the desired positions then storing these positions by pressing the store button.
The axis to be positioned is selected and driven to the required position. All axes can be moved and changes made between each subsequent store operation. This sequence is repeated to move the axes to the next position until the complete sequence has been stored.

The "Man-O-Matic" has a data memory capacity to store up to a maximum of 5000 positions. If all 5000 locations are to be used for a two axis machine this would give 2500 locations per axis which could be split to give 50 programs each capable of 50 steps per program. This could alternatively be split to give 100 programs but with 25 steps per program.

Similarly if a three axis machine is required the 5000 locations have to be split three ways giving 1666 locations available for each axis which could be split to give a three axis machine with 50 programs of 30 steps per program. Alternatively a 4 axis machine could be arranged to have 40 programs with 30 steps per program. These are sample figures which may be changed at the design stage of the machine to suit the individual customer needs.

With the additional purchase of programming software the RS232 port may be used to store developed programs on to floppy disk by transfer of the data table. Alternatively positional data can be written directly to the data table.

The Bode "Man-O-Matic Positioner offers the following advantages once the workpiece has been secured to the table:-

1. No time is lost by the operator carrying out the functions to manipulate the positioner into the correct position for welding.

2. Since the operation of the machine movements are done automatically this relieves the operator from having to carry out these movements.

3. Machine positions are repeated in the same order so the fabrication is always presented to the operator in the required welding sequence.

4. Since all the machine movements are automatically controlled the time taken for movements is set and ensures that the time taken for manipulating each workpiece is identical throughout the shift.

5. Since the only effort required by the operator is to press the index button or foot switch, the operator's time and effort is concentrated on the welding itself.

6. Programs can be interrupted at any time for extra manual operations if required and the program continued from the place it was left.
7. Pre-programmed steps can be repeated or omitted. That is the program step counter may be incremented or decremented when in auto mode so that steps could be repeated or missed if required.

Head & Tailstock Positioners

BODE Head and Tailstock Units are of robust all steel construction and are equipped with heavy duty, totally enclosed Timken bearings.

These units are built in capacities from 2-300 tonnes, and are supplied individually or with Tailstocks mounted on trackway, capable of being moved for various workpiece lengths.

Constant or variable speed rotation by motor and reduction gearbox, final drive by machine cut steel gearing to top plate.

Lathe Type Positioners

BODE WELD-LATHE machines are designed for fully automated repetitive manufacture or, alternatively , for individual components.

They are proven machine to cover a wide range of circumferential welding needs with Mig, Tig or sub-arc capability. This combined with automation with easy set-up for repetitive accuracy there is no need for skilled welder.

Standard Features

• The heavy duty welded base incorporates machined ways for the precision location of both Head & Tailstock ensuring accurate rotation.
• Lathe Headstock incorporates variable speed rotation drive through SCR control, ± 2% speed holding.
• Tailstock moves along machined ways to accommodate varying lengths of workpiece.
• Two adjustable steadies with auto-sets are mounted on the base to facilitate loading and unloading.
• Head & Tailstock provided with face plates having slots for tooling to facilitate rapid clamping of workpieces.
• Where necessary, a rigid side beam mounted at rear of machine designed to carry one or more carriages which support the welding equipment. The carriage incorporates 8 rollers mounted on eccentric shafts to ensure accurate alignment, and which travel along the precision machined 'V' ways incorporated in the beam.
• Infinite positioning of welding head(s) over entire length of workpiece.
• Earthing is incorporated through spring-loaded carbon bushes and brass collector ring fitted at the back of the Headstock face plate, preventing bearing damage from weld current.

Rotilting Welding Positioners
